Running out of Crystal River on Florida’s Nature Coast, we fish the offshore structure where quality snapper live: ledges, rock piles, and the deep limestone reefs of the Middle Grounds. When the season opens, the bite is real and the box fills fast.
The Run Offshore
Depending on your target and the time of year, we may be running anywhere from 60 to 110 miles offshore. That is a full day on the water. We leave early, run hard, and maximize your time on the fish rather than idling around in water that won’t produce. The boat is set up for offshore work and the ride is comfortable, but come ready for a day, not a half-morning.
How We Fish
Red snapper are bottom fish and we fish them accordingly. We run natural bait presentations tight to structure, with cut bait doing most of the work. Pinfish, threadfin, and cut squid are consistent producers depending on what the fish are responding to that day. Snapper are aggressive when they’re feeding, but the presentation needs to be right. We handle the rigging, the depth, and the drift. Your job is to stay dialed in when the rod loads up.
What We Provide
Rods, reels, terminal tackle, and bait are included. We also clean and bag your catch at the end of the trip. You’ll need a valid Florida saltwater fishing license, food and drinks for the day, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing for time on open water. We’ll give you a full checklist when you book.
The Captains
Captain Bobby brings multigenerational fishing experience and years running the offshore grounds out of Crystal River. Captain Alyssa is known for making any angler, regardless of experience level, comfortable and successful on the water. Both captains are licensed, insured, and put client experience first.
The federal for-hire red snapper season in the Gulf is set annually by NOAA and typically opens in summer. Dates vary by year and vessel type. Check the current season schedule at NOAA Fisheries or contact us directly for up-to-date information on when we can target snapper.
Quality red snapper fishing in federal Gulf waters generally requires running 60 miles or more offshore. The fish are present closer in, but keeper-class snapper and larger specimens are most consistently found on deeper structure. Out of Crystal River, we target the 70 to 100-foot range for reliable action and run to the Middle Grounds for the best fish.
The current federal bag limit is two red snapper per person with a 16-inch minimum size limit. These regulations apply in federal waters starting at the 9-mile line off Florida’s Gulf coast and are subject to annual revision by NOAA.
No. Native Charters FL operates under a Florida charter license that covers all paying passengers aboard. You do not need to purchase your own recreational saltwater fishing license to fish with us. If you plan to fish on your own outside of the charter, such as from shore or a private boat, you would need a separate license.
Cut bait is our most consistent producer for snapper. Pinfish, threadfin herring, and squid all work well depending on conditions. We provide bait as part of the charter, so you do not need to source anything ahead of time.
Red snapper are a long-lived species, with some fish reaching 50 years or more in age. Trophy fish in the Gulf can exceed 30 pounds. The Middle Grounds, which we run to on extended offshore trips, holds some of the largest specimens we see all year.

The Middle Grounds in particular is a world-class fishery for snapper and grouper that most Gulf ports cannot reach as efficiently. It is one of the reasons we run out of here.
